Faith Butterfield: Capy Studios’ Storyboard and Character Designer.

Faith is rewriting the rules of creativity with a bold mix of talents: artist, animator, writer, illustrator, voice actress, prop designer and even activist. The latter, an unapologetic nod to her  having autism since she was 2, actually contributed to the artistic skills she has leant into. Describing herself as a neurodiverse artist, she is a force. Faith is Capy Studios’ “Marty’s Place” primary storyboard artist and character designer for the animated production’s scenes. 

“I started drawing at 2,” said Faith. “I wrote a poem when I was 13, “A Thousand Faces” about inclusion. “I drew happy faces, sad faces, lots of blank faces. I drew all day and all night. When my paper was gone, I rolled out toilet paper and drew faces. Drawing faces and flapping my hands were my friends.”

Faith’s originality and imagination served her well, graduating as a fine arts major from Pomona, attending Citrus College, earning degrees in Art History, Studio Art and Web Design.

Faith strives to promote inclusion of all people living with autism spectrum disorder, and she perseveres, despite the serious trials she faces personally. On a professional basis, she is proud of her association with Spectrum Labs animation studios, where she first met Ian. Which led to Capy Studios and the Wegher Thompson’s: Ian, Seth, Barbara and Theresa ( who was also a teacher at Spectrum Labs), collaborating on “Marty’s Place”.

Faith has also received a Certificate of Achievement from DaniMation Entertainment and was featured in a Special Olympics PSA.

“My artistic influences range from Bruce Timm, Glen Murakami and Butch Hartman to Chuck Jones.”

Faith has pivoted her disability into opportunity and flipped the script on art, amassing an impressive portfolio. Her animated short “My Heart Flies” won the Academy of Dreams award at the Palm Springs International Animation Film Festival, and her animated short “The Perfect Circle” about an outcast of the circle tribe was well received.

Whether fine art- figure drawing, painting or illustration, backgrounds, animation, character design, storyboards and storytelling- or graphic design- Faith follows her passion. She even illustrated a children’s book “Mouse in the Penthouse” with story by her sister Judith, published on Amazon, and was featured in the book “Artism: The Art of Autism” featuring her professional work for the Savant Academy.

Faith’s work was selected for the Unpack Your Mind exhibition at DNJ Gallery, Santa Monica.
