The Capy Corner!
Written by: by Kitty Dill and “Gordo” Durich,
Lenord Robinson- “Big Daddy” of Animation and Capy Studios’ Animation Director.
Three things describe this extraordinary man aka
“Big Daddy.”
Gentle, kind and the kind of voice that anyone wants to listen to….deep, beautifully fluid and warm. Moreover, this Animator is animated in so many ways. Lenord is an amazing amalgamation of so many elements.
At 15 he’d developed into what he called “a very capable character artist” and Lenord leaned into animation. A former Disney animator, director and story artist, he
became Animation Director for Capy Studios “organically.” A spontaneous development and meeting of minds. Lenord met Ian on a train commuting where they became fast friends.
“Big Daddy” became not just Ian’s train mate. Instead his mentor for art - especially all things animation! Cut to Capy Studios’ crew. Seth was searching for a great animation director. Why?
Seth (and Barbara) wanted an experienced animator to direct and mentor artists…
Especially Faith Butterfield. Faith is the driven, talented primary Capy Studios’ storyboard -and character artist for
“Marty’s Place.”
Cut to Lenord. Trained at Walt Disney Feature Animation as a character artist, his hugely impressive portfolio
includes working on the animated version of “Lord of the Rings,” directing “Tazmania” and “Animaniacs.” He worked at studios including Dreamworks and Warner Bros. and on many projects including “Saving Santa.”
Ian was fascinated with animation and voice-overs. Lenord “happened” (what an amazing coincidence!) to live in the same town and was eyeing retirement from full-time work.
Lenord in his spare time teaches animation, illustrates
children’s books.
